When you have a new puppy in your life, it is easy
to get
overwhelmed by all the skills your puppy needs to master in
order
to be a well-behaved, well-rounded, confident adult dog.
Puppies are wonderful
and endearing and easy to love, but without consistent
guidance, they can morph
into rambunctious and obnoxious family members once they hit
adolescence.
Your job as a new
puppy parent is to provide them with behavior guidance as
well
as the socialization they
need to gain confidence and skills in the world. Every
puppy can learn that calm polite behavior is the key to
getting access to all good
things in the world.
The trainers at Fuzzy Buddy's have developed a
thorough puppy training program
to help you succeed in raising a dog who is well-socialized
and fun to live with.
Research on challenging behaviors in adult dogs has helped
us devise
class
exercises designed to produce good habits from the
beginning.
Class exercises
include:
+Handling experiences by different people in different ways
to help your pup get comfortable being touched
in all the crazy ways vets,
groomers,
kids, visitors, and strangers will want to touch him in the coming years.
+Learning calm
behaviors to use to earn the ability to do something fun like greet another
dog or meet a new person. This helps build the self
control and frustration tolerance we like our dogs to have
as welcomed members of our household.
+Establishing a good
foundation for polite greetings to humans, keeping four feet
on the floor or sitting to say, "hello".
+Exposure to new
sights and sounds, and different types of people moving in
different ways, helps the puppy learn the world is a safe
place. Fearful pups will
get special coaching as we
increase their confidence in the world.
+Supervised puppy play
times, so both humans and puppies can get feedback
and
coaching on good puppy play manners.
+Introduction of key
basic manners skills such as leave it, drop it, and walking
politely
on leash.
+Instruction on dealing with the common puppy challenges
that families
experience in their homes such as puppy
biting, house-training issues, and
chewing.
