Advanced Manners

(Prerequisite: Basic Manners or equivalent)

It doesn’t matter how well your dog follows cues in your kitchen or backyard. Good manners really count when you’re out in public with your dog. The only way to get your dog fluent with following cues around distractions is to practice around distractions. That’s why we meet at Green Lake for Advanced Manners. The ducks, dogs, geese, squirrels, rabbits, skateboarders, strollers, kids, joggers and bikes are perfect to use for our training games!

Activities include practicing leash manners, polite greetings, passing by other dogs calmly, solid stays, and reliable leave-its. The exercises prepare you for the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen test, a national test which assesses your dog’s manners in public. You will have a chance to take the CGC test during the last class meeting. Your dog could come out of Advanced Manners with an actual title!

This class is appropriate for:
* Dogs who need to continue the foundation work began in Basic Manners
* Dogs who need the CGC title to do therapy work
* Dogs who can’t focus on their handler around distractions
* Dogs who  become embarrassingly over-excited when on leash

This class is not appropriate for dogs who growl or snap at other dogs or people.
